What is Vista?

Europe is experiencing profound social transformation driven by overlapping crises, geopolitical tensions, climate change and rapid technological developments. These changes are reshaping citizens' values, social cohesion and democratic life.

VISTA (Values in Turbulent Times: Navigating Social Changes and Challenges) is a European COST Action that brings together researchers from across Europe and beyond to understand how values evolve during periods of crisis and social transformation. Through interdisciplinary collaboration, comparative research and dialogue with policymakers and civil society, VISTA generates knowledge to support stronger democracies and more cohesive societies.

Our research focuses on three key questions • How do crises and social transformations reshape citizens' values? • Which values remain stable, and which are changing across different generations, cultures and regions? • How can research on value change support better policies and strengthen social cohesion?

Our priorities

• Building a sustainable European research network. • Advancing theory, methods, and comparative research on value change. • Supporting early-career researchers through training, mentoring, and mobility. • Connecting research with policymakers, institutions, and civil society. • Creating lasting impact through knowledge sharing and international collaboration.

International collaboration

VISTA connects nearly 200 researchers across 35 countries, building an interdisciplinary community that promotes scientific collaboration, knowledge sharing, and research excellence across Europe and beyond.

VISTA as a COST Action
